## Description
Research and RSE environments have historically lacked the dedicated infrastructure and support structures needed to prioritize security effectively. Research code is frequently shared openly, runs on shared infrastructure, and is typically developed without dedicated security staff creating a risk profile that merits closer attention. Recent months have seen several notable supply chain attacks targeting open-source ecosystems widely used in research. Alongside these developments, advances in AI capabilities have introduced new considerations for vulnerability detection and software security more broadly. UW SSEC’s meetup on Thursday, May 14th at 3:00 p.m. PT, invites Seattle-area researchers and Research Software Engineers to explore the current security landscape and discuss practical, realistic approaches to addressing these challenges within research contexts. All experience levels are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.
